Descripción de Bose Speakers (The Lifestyle 48): Small Speakers That Are Better Than Bose's!:

NOTE: I made this video when I still had some "bass head" in me, and that's why I put in a subwoofer that costs half the cost of the whole system. While this would still kill the Bose Lifestyle 48 in sound quality, you could get much better overall sound if you got something like this instead: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRYgsBNdefw&feature=channel_video_title But anyway, I know some people like Bose's surround systems for their speaker's small size. And if you think a system that has 4.5 inch tall speakers, and you are okay with "good enough sound," then the Lifestyle 48 may be for you. BUT, if you want small speakers with MASSIVE performance, but are a couple inches bigger, then check out this system. Anyway, here are a few major flaws with the Lifestyle 48. -The Lifestyle 48 has a regular progressive-scan DVD player, which is ridiculous for a $4000 system. And, even if you wanted to add a Blu-Ray player to the Bose Lifestyle 48, you wouldn't be able to run its audio through the Bose's Lifestyle 48's HDMI inputs, for they only pass through video. This means you'd need either a TOSLINK or Coaxial audio cable to get the Blu-Ray's audio to the Lifestyle 48. Not only would this prevent you from hearing your Blu-Ray disc's full sound quality potential, as Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD can ONLY be passed through HDMI, it would also mean you have another cable to deal with, which Bose claims their systems are supposed to reduce (which they don't). -The Lifestyle 48 has 5.1 surround sound, and Bose's excuse for not having it is that barely any movies are coded in 6.1 or 7.1 surround sound. However, for the last 3 or so years, every $400+ A/V receiver has been capable of either 6.1 or 7.1 surround sound. And they can make it work with a 5.1 signal because they have Dolby Pro-Logic IIx and DTS Neo 6 decoding, both of which up-convert a 5.1 signal into 7.1. So, there's not much need for DVD's to be coded in 6.1 or 7.1 surround sound, for A/V receivers can do it already. Also, BTW, I believe that up until Toy Story 3, every movie that movie theaters showed, and of course movie theaters have tons of surround speakers (which includes ones on the sides and in the back, which is what 7.1 surround sound is), was coded in 5.1 surround sound. But, just like modern A/V receivers do, they had decoding that would upconvert a 5.1 signal into however many channels they had. While 7.1 surround sound isn't necessary, Bose could AT LEAST make an upgrade that supports it. - The LS48 has the AdaptiQ sound calibration system. But, the performance of this system compared to the LS48 would be that the AdaptiQ wouldn't help, for this system's performance is so much better. Heck, my old Yamah RX-N600 A/V receiver doesnt even have an auto calibration feature, and it still blows the LS48 away. (This Yamaha receiver does have a calibration feature, though). -The Lifestyle 48s Acoustimass module has 2 5.25 in. drivers inside of it that are supposed to handle almost all of the low sounds. 5.25 in. drivers are what the size mid-range or mid-bass drivers should be; not subwoofers. And as mentioned in the video, it can't play as low or as loud as a subwoofer, so the very low notes on a recording will barely even be audible through the Lifestyle 48.Also, it produces sounds a subwoofer SHOULD NOT play. Dialogue, and pretty much any mid-range or mid-bass sound, is recorded on a soundtrack to come from the main speakers only, as those sounds require two speakers to accurately reproduce. But, with the Bose Acoustimass module, since there's only one, those sounds that are supposed to be reproduced by two speakers will only be reproduced by one, which ruins the stereo sound and therefore does not reproduce what the recording is supposed to sound like. Plus, since you're supposed to set it off to the side (like a subwoofer), the sounds you're supposed to hear from the main speakers are coming from somewhere else, which is most likely no where near the main speakers (just the fact there's only one Acoustimass module makes this the situation in almost every case), This, again, does not reproduce the recording the way it was meant to be heard. The system in the video, however, has small speakers that play low enough to where they don't need a "bass module" to reproduce the lower sounds for them. So, they can be used with a REAL subwoofer. Anyway, if you're considering buying the Lifestyle 48, or if you think Bose is "the best" or "really good," think again and go listen to something like this. Heck, even a system costing 1/4 of this (using the same Cinema speakers) would blow away the LS48. FYI, I do not work for or endorse any of these companys products.
